“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

2 Corinthians 11:14

You will come to realize that as you walk more closely with the Lord and as you faithfully obey Him, He will grant you more victories in all areas of your life. But beware that the enemy will not just sit around and do nothing. Now he realized that you have become very dangerous to him, and he will do everything possible to try to bring you down. This is when you need to enhance one of the spiritual gifts that God has given you, which is called the gift of discernment. John says that we should learn how to discern spirits in people. You might say, “Why should I do that?” Well, if you don’t learn to enhance your spiritual discernment, you will easily be caught off guard when Satan comes at you disguised as an angel of light.

Then you might wonder, how would I sharpen my spiritual discernment? The two simple ways are by being filled with the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. You begin by sharpening your spiritual senses by tuning yourself to the right voices. When I was a young Christian, I began to be involved with a lot of new Christian friends. But there was a time when I met some so-called Christian believers who invited me to a dance club. I was intrigued by their lifestyle. They were still drinking alcohol, smoking, and dancing to lewd music. The next day, they invited me to a type of religious seminar. After the seminar, one of them asked me whether or not I believed in the Holy Spirit. I told them that I speak in tongues, and they all looked at me like I had just come out of a mental asylum. From then on, I did not associate with them anymore because I discerned that their spirit resisted my testimony. All of them may go to church and attend religious seminars, but inwardly, their lives have not manifested a changed life.

We are called to a life that is constantly being transformed by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. As we get into the habit of allowing ourselves to be directed by His Spirit and His word, our faith goes from glory to glory. Then, as we are transformed into the image of Jesus Christ, we are sent to guide others to a transformed life in Jesus. Though Satan might try to disguise himself as an angel of light, we can discern that wolf in sheep’s clothing a mile away! So don’t be easily deceived; instead, use your spiritual discernment to unveil everything and everyone around you, so the world can see that you are truly transformed by the power of the cross.
