Do you know that every single word you speak can affect your life? If you don’t, you need to realize that it does. You may say Oh, you mean I can’t fool around with my words anymore? Not if you want the blessing of God to flow in your life constantly. You have to know that Satan is an extreme legalist when it comes to your words. He takes your words literally, especially your negative ones. He gladly wants you to speak all the garbage that other people in the world speak, so He can gain access into your life and cause serious havoc. You see, your words either empower him or they immobilize him. I don’t know about you, but I want my words to be dangerous against him and a blessing to others.

The first thing you must do to gain authority over the devil with your words is to learn to keep your words. That is why Jesus said let your yes be yes and your no be no, anything else comes from the devil or the dark side of his heart. You must learn to say what you mean and mean what you say. If you promise someone that you are going to be there at a certain time, be there at the exact time you say that you are going to be there. If you promise your kids that you are going to take them to the park on Saturday, then you better get your park gear on instead of your work garments. If you can’t make it, then tell them that you won’t make it, and don’t make the promise that you will be there. Don’t even say maybe I’ll be there. Why? The word “maybe” instills the seed of doubt not only to the hearer but to yourself. If you are not careful, a habit of “maybes” will force you to live a life of broken promises and double-mindedness because you can’t make up your mind. Then, people will no longer trust what you say, let alone depend on you to keep any of your words. Not only that, you empower the devil to come and shift your faith like wheat. That’s exactly what happened to Peter when he made a promise to Jesus that he would go and die with Him. Did Peter fulfill his promise? No, but he sure denied Jesus three times. Instead of agreeing with God, he agreed with the devil out of fear. But I’m sure Peter learned a valuable lesson about keeping his word after Jesus forgave him. Why is keeping your word so important? It is because your words are covenant words. A covenant is a contract that binds two parties. Your own words either bind you to the situation around you or bind you to the promises of God. They either bind you to your past or your future. They either bind you to sickness or healing. They either bind you to poverty or abundance. They either bind you to the power of the devil or the power of God in your life.

Once you realize that your words are covenant words and you are a covenant speaker, created in the image of God, make the decision today to align your confession with the words of God. Let your yes be yes unto the Lord and your no be no unto the devil, stand your ground and drive the devil away from your affairs today!
