Lily of the Valleys
“I am the rose of Sharon,
And the lily of the valleys.”
Song of Solomon 2:1
Every human on this planet is susceptible to worries and concerns of the past, present, and future. Some can’t overcome their past decisions, heartaches, failures, and regrets. Some people struggle with their present circumstances, such as a job, a boss, and a co-worker they don’t like. A close friend or spouse who betrayed them. An addiction they have been dealing with for years. Current financial woes threaten their way of life by not being able to keep up with their past-due bills, putting food on the table, and keeping ends meet. Others are plagued with future fears of what is going on today. How can I save for my children’s college? How do I have enough for retirement? How can I support my parents when they are old and sick? What would happen to my family if I died?
It is natural for you to worry, but it is unnatural for you to worry when you have God on your side. Every time you worry, you are doubting that God can save, provide for, or restore you. It is not God’s will for His children to worry about their past, present, and future. Why? Jesus is your lily of the valley. Whatever you are concerned about today in your valley of despair, the valley of worry, or the valley of fear, He is your answer and solution because He is there with you in your valleys. A lily is a sweet and fragrant flower with a strong scent. Jesus has a sweetness in His ministry, especially when He gave “himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor” (Ephesians 5:2). He died on the cross for you to forgive your past, present, and future sins through the finished work of the cross. The lily has many medicinal qualities. According to ancient teaching, it could be used to restore a lost voice, help faintness, was good for the liver, and help dropsy. Jesus is the lily in your valley of sickness, as He is the great physician and is fully capable of curing all diseases and afflictions of the soul. Jesus is the lily in your valley of worries, as He is the lily that grows in the valleys (Song of Solomon 2:1), fields (Matthew 6:28), and even among thorns (Song of Solomon 2:2). In other words, when you entrust your life to Him, He will cause you to grow no matter where you are or who you are dealing with. Jesus is the lily in your valley of lack, as He wants you to toil not and count on your sweat to produce the fruits of your labor. He wants to bless you with more than enough sweatless blessings when you simply trust in His word of provision that He will bless you according to His riches in glory. Jesus promised that when you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, ALL these things (whatever your present or future needs) will be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
The Lily of the Valleys, Jesus Christ, promised to never leave you or forsake you in your present situation because He was the lily that was thrown into the oven of God’s fury judgment at the cross for your sins (Matthew 6:30). Jesus did that so you could be clothed much more in His righteousness now and forever to receive God’s endless love, favor, and blessings all the days of your life!
