A New Appetite

“ Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him

who sent Me, and to finish His work.”

John 4:34

What drives you? What motivates you? What energizes you to fulfill your dreams? Is it a success? Is it money? Is it the craving for a better life? Many people may have the drive, ambition, determination, or sheer willpower to succeed, but not many of them have the heart of integrity to stay at the top. Once they reached the glory of their success, they eased up on their integrity, character, and attitude, which they thought were no longer necessary to stay on top. That is a lie straight from the heart of Satan, whose only intention for giving success is to take it back from you.

The driving force for Jesus to finish His course and fulfill God’s purpose in Him was to do the will of the Father and finish it. To do and complete the work of the Father on the earth was the life and breath of Jesus. The success of the world didn’t drive Him. Popularity or wealth didn’t drive Him. But the desire to please the Father in everything He does is the only thing that could satisfy His appetite on the earth.

Does this mean we lay aside our appetite for real food? Don’t be silly. It doesn’t mean that at all. It means that you need to know what your true appetites or desires are. What are your inner cravings daily? Popularity? Wealth? Sin? Success? Or is it to please God in everything you do and in every area of your life? Let me make this clear for you: God wants you to succeed in everything that you do and in every area of your life. He even gave you and I specific instruction how to do it and it is found in Joshua 1:8: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you[a] shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Why do you think that God gave you His word in the first place? Because Jesus said that “Man don’t live by bread (physical necessities) alone but by every Word that proceed from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) It is because His Word not only gives you the power to succeed and be blessed in all you do, but it also gives you the character and grace to stay at the top by His love.  In other words, what God is saying is that if you allow His word to change your life and pattern of thinking, it will guide you to fulfill His perfect will.

He wants you first to have a new appetite for Him and His Word. When you give Him your appetite, He will fill it with the best meat from His stockroom.  That is something you can munch on for life.
