“The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me,

these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”

Philippians 4:9

You may have heard the popular question, “What would Jesus do?” It’s a question many Christians are taught to ask when facing a challenge. While it can be a helpful guide, it is often shaped by personal beliefs, experiences, and theological perspectives. For example, if someone belongs to a church that doesn’t believe Jesus still heals today, they might pray for a sick person by asking God to give them strength to endure rather than expecting healing. Instead of wondering what Jesus would do, perhaps the better reminder is: See what Jesus does. Instead of relying on personal interpretation, we should look at what Jesus did in the Bible. When we fix our eyes on Him, our faith grows, and we begin to expect His power to work in our lives.

Think about it this way: When you really desire something, you visualize it clearly. If you want a brand-new car, you probably know the exact model, color, and interior details. If you want to be fit, you’ve likely been inspired by someone else’s healthy lifestyle. If you desire financial stability, you might look at those who live in financial freedom and aspire to the same. In the same way, when we pray, we should see Jesus moving in our situation. When you pray for healing, do you see yourself whole and well? Do you picture Jesus placing His hands on you, removing sickness and pain? When you pray for financial provision, do you envision Jesus blessing your work and multiplying your resources? When you pray for the salvation of a loved one, do you see Jesus touching their heart and transforming their life?

As a young Christian, I worked with a Christian-based organization called Teen Challenge in San Francisco under my mentor, Dino Pacheco, who has now gone to be with the Lord. Many people joined the drug rehabilitation program seeking freedom from addiction. I often prayed for them during counseling sessions. Each time I laid hands on someone, I would envision their chains breaking. Sometimes, prayer became intense, and I imagined the glorious light of Jesus penetrating their hearts and minds, shattering the darkness that had held them captive. Many testified to experiencing the presence of God and being set free. Glory to God!

Another time, I prayed for the salvation of my father, who had been a devoted Buddhist for 40 years. As I prayed, the Lord gave me a vision of my father dressed in white, raising his arms in surrender to Jesus. Though he was still worshipping idols at the time, I held on to the vision and believed in faith that God was working. Today, my father has completely surrendered to Jesus! Praise God! So when you feel led to speak to someone, watch what Jesus does. When you pray for your child, watch what Jesus does. When you declare God’s promises over your situation, watch what Jesus does! Keep your eyes on Him, because with Jesus, nothing is impossible! (Luke 1:37)
