“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you

are not under the law, but under grace.”

Romans 6:14

Sin. It is a door to the cursed life. A life without God. A life without His grace. A life separated from God’s presence. Sin means to miss the mark or go astray from the path of uprightness and honor, or to wander and break God’s law. Adam opened the door for sin to enter and destroy all that God had promised him when he disobeyed God’s commandment of love. You see, God didn’t suggest that Adam not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; He commanded Adam. Is it because God was hiding or holding something back from Adam? Of course not. It was a commandment of love because God wanted to protect Adam from death; that is why He warned him that if he did eat of it, Adam would surely die, and that includes the entire human race after him.

That’s exactly what happened when Adam broke God’s commandment of love. Adam had to fully bear the consequences of his sinful action, including anyone who was born after him. Did God sit back and allow sin to annihilate the entire human race? No. He made provision for us by sending His own Son wrapped in sinful flesh. The Word of God said that, “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh.” (Romans 8:3)  Jesus has completely eradicated the power of sin through His death at the cross. He is the Lord over sin and death. All sickness and disease that is in the law of sin and death is destroyed and under Jesus, who became the Judge over all of them.  Jesus made sin no more. He took away the power of sin over those who believe in Him. Does that mean that sin will no longer knock on your door to entice you to sin again? No. For every born-again child of God, you are transferred from the law or power of sin unto His grace or unmerited favor and blessing of eternal life. You need to understand that God’s grace is not a free license to sin either. You do not overcome your addictions through your willpower. You can’t fight off temptation by merely distracting yourself from it or thinking it away. Thoughts of any form of addiction will come when you least expect them. Regardless of how or when it comes, your victory over them is sustained through the consciousness of your righteousness of God in Christ.

The good news is that you are now under His grace, and you are anointed to exercise Jesus’ authority over sin and death on the earth. However, God does not want you to beat your head in resisting sin 24/7. He does not want you to be sin-conscious but Christ-conscious. As long as your mind is filled with His love and you know that God loves you regardless of it all, sin will have no power over you now or ever.
