“Charge those who are rich in this world that they be not haughty, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.”

I Timothy 6:1

It is God’s desire for you to live blessed in your emotions, health, and worldly riches. He wants you to enjoy life to the fullest and more abundantly. In truth, God wants you to ask more of Him until your joy is made full. (John 16:24) God wants to entrust you with the riches of His kingdom here on earth. It is God who gives you the power to get wealth and be wealthy. He wants to bless you so you can share your generosity with the people around you. When you realize that everything belongs to God in the first place, and He has chosen you to be a funnel of blessing to others, it is easy to be gracious to others who are in need.

Jesus came to show us the generosity of the Father in the lives of people. Not a single soul who came to Him walked away empty-handed. The sick who came to Him walked away healed. The demon-possessed who came to Him walked away sound and in their right mind. The poor who came to Him walked away filled with more than enough. The dead who were presented to Him even rose again! Everyone Jesus encountered in His lifetime was blessed! Even at the time Jesus was crucified on the cross, He blessed his torturers, condemners, and everyone who stood against Him with forgiveness and mercy.

You might say, “Well, that is Jesus, and I don’t have much to give to anyone today.” Do you know that the only time Jesus was made poor was at the cross, when He decided to be crucified for the sins of the world? You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich. (2 Corinthians 8:9) Jesus’s poverty constituted for his sufferings at the cross by whose stripes you were healed. His blood poured out for your redemption and forgiveness of all your sins. His nakedness so you can be covered in his righteousness. His death so you can receive His life inside of you today. If Jesus is inside of you, then all the blessings He has already given you, whether small or great, are a meaningful resource for you to be gracious to the people around you. Being a blessing to others is not only about giving your money to the poor, but being gracious with your time with your family, love to the unlovable, encouragement for the discouraged, hope for the hopeless, comfort for the comfortless, and more grace to anyone God may open an opportunity for you to minister to. This is the reason God has chosen you to become His child, so He can give you richly all things to enjoy and for you to enjoy being gracious to the people He has placed in your life.
