Complacency To Intimacy
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
For your love is better than wine.”
Song of Solomon 1:2
The worst place that you want your faith to be is in a state of complacency. Complacency is an instance of contented self-satisfaction or not wanting to know what God wants you to do next. It can also be known as a spiritual rut. If you are not careful, complacency can sneak into your life and choke the power of your faith. So, how do you keep yourself from falling into the entrapment of complacency? By rekindling your intimacy with God.
The writer of the Song of Solomon portrays the intimacy of two lovers whose love and desires for one another are stronger than death. It is the intimacy of two hearts sharing the same passionate desires and goals. This is the kind of intimacy the Lord desires to have with you.
When I was courting my wife, I was desirous to be with her. It didn’t matter how tired I was or how late in the day it was. I always wanted to see her and spend my time with her before the day was over. And I was committed to doing that 7 days a week! Even after we got married, the same desire is still in me. It is the fire of love that we have nurtured with each other.
That is the same passionate love the Lord wants to share with you and even more. It is a relationship of two lovers who share their deepest secrets, feelings, and desires. It is to love Him not only because He has blessed you, but also because of Who He is in your life. He is your Father, your Comforter, and your Lover. He loves your soul, spirit, and body so much. He traded in His position in heaven to become a man and went to the cross for you so He could make you His own. That’s the supernatural love and level of intimacy God wants to share with every one of His children. When this kind of love, which the bible calls the first love, burns in you, you will never fall short of knowing Him and fulfilling His will in your life until you see Him again in His glory.
