The one thing that would make the devil squirm in agony is a Christian who has decided to become a covenant holder with His God. It is because He has put himself in a position to receive the very riches and blessings of God. A covenant is a binding contract agreement between two parties. At the time, God made a covenant with Abraham, making him the father of many nations. Abraham was eighty years old and without children. Sarah, Abraham’s wife, was beyond her childbearing years. Their situation was physically impossible, but Abraham believed beyond his or his wife’s physical limitations, and the Lord kept His covenant with Abraham by blessing them with Isaac, their son. A covenant is a divine agreement or contract between God and man. In this case, it was a promise made by God to Abraham that He would keep His Word even though he didn’t have the capability, power, or resources to make it happen; it was God alone who made it happen. The only part that Abraham played was his faith to believe that God was going to do exactly what He said. God’s covenant is always based on His word. If we believe and keep His word, we are in covenant with Him. God’s covenant not only covers the area of your finances but also every other aspect of your lives, which includes the prosperity of your health, the prosperity of your mind (soul), and the prosperity of your spirit.

Back in Abraham’s time, when two individuals made a covenant with each other, they would exchange three things, which included their clothes, their swords or staff, and their sandals. Their clothes mean an exchange of authority. Their swords meant your enemies will be my enemies, and my enemies will be your enemies. The sandals meant the exchange of possession or properties or the covenant to do business together. Any covenant made must also be sealed by the sacrificial blood of animals and the circumcision of the firstborn. This meant that each party would keep their part of the covenant even unto death.

God didn’t only make a covenant with Abraham but also with his seed. That is to you and me in this time and age. God’s covenant is ageless, and it is the same for us today since the day He first spoke it to Abraham to be a blessing on the earth. God also told the very first human whom he created, Adam, to multiply and be a blessing on the earth. But Adam broke His covenant with God by disobeying Him. Satan is always on the lookout to make a man or woman break their covenant with God, as He did with Adam and Eve. However, that didn’t stop God from keeping His part of the bargain by restoring the covenant of the eternal blessing to us. God did that by sending His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross and sealing the covenant between God and man by His blood. Jesus became our covenant keeper between God and man. Since Jesus never failed to keep any of the commandments of God in life and death, our covenant with God is forever secured, regardless of what we have done or have not done. The new covenant is based solely on His amazing grace toward those who believe in Him. Through the cross, Jesus has made us a blessing according to His riches in glory toward the families and nations of the world!
