God Remembers You

“Are not five sparrows sold for two cents?

Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.”

Luke 12:6

There comes a time when we all feel neglected, abandoned, discarded, or forgotten by the people close to us. During these times, we can feel very much alone and vulnerable, thinking that we are worthless. When we are weak and think such thoughts of unworthiness about ourselves, the enemy comes in to add salt to our emotional wounds by making us believe no one can ever care or even love us again.

King David knows and has experienced such abandonment time and time again. Once, when he returned from battle with his men, he realized that his people, including women and children, had been taken away by his enemies. Everyone who stood with him in battle was so grieved by the news that they were about to stone their leader, blaming David for the unfortunate situation. The only thing David could do was to run to God and ask for His counsel. Through prayer, God assured David that if he went after the enemies, God would retrieve all his people intact and, as a bonus, gain more spoils from the enemies. That is exactly what had happened. After David had become king, he went through another bitter experience when his son, Absalom, betrayed him by deposing King David from his throne. When David and the people who followed him fled from Jerusalem, Absalom added more harm to David’s already emotional distress by sleeping with all of David’s concubines who were left behind. Through it all, David can only rely on God’s faithfulness in his life. In the end, God’s judgment fell upon Absalom, and he was killed in battle by one of David’s mighty men, and God restored King David to his throne.

Jesus assured us that if your Heavenly Father does not forget even the sparrows that are worth two for a penny, and you will get an extra one thrown in for free if you purchase two pennies worth, how much more is your life before God? My dear friend, God knows the very number of your hairs on your head, and every time a single one falls, He recounts them again! Though I love my children very much, I will never take the time and energy to number every strand of hair on their heads. If God knows the number of hairs on your head, that means He knows every detail of who you are and what you are going through. He knows what you are feeling every second of the day and the thoughts that are rushing through your mind. God remembers you so intimately and lovingly because you are His precious child, and whom Jesus, His Son, died. He promised to every single one of His children that He will never leave them or forsake them. You can be confident that when you come to Him, you will find His eternal comfort, unmerited favor, and unconditional love, knowing that God is always mindful to take good care of you.
