“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians. 4:18

We are living in a very materialistic world. Everybody wants to get what they can these days as quickly as they can. Whether it is a job, fame, money, power, or pleasure, they are willing to go after it no matter what the stakes are. In time, they may obtain it, but they will soon realize that if God hadn’t given it to them, these physical things will be gone right from their very eyes, and all the things that they work hard to get will only turn to vapor.

“Will you set your eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings: they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.” (Proverbs 23:5) Does this mean that God doesn’t want you to have riches? Absolutely not! He just doesn’t want you to focus on it! He promised in His Word that if you seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, which is eternal, all these things, riches, homes, and earthly wealth, which is temporal, would be added unto you. God wants your heart to be in the right place so that He can bless you more, not only with temporal things but also with eternal things. The eternal things are what count the most in His eyes. The eternal things may include the souls of men, the truth of God found in His Word, and the fruits of the Holy Spirit in your life, just to mention a few. He knows that if your priorities are set straight and that you seek after the eternal things first, all these other things that you will need in your life will be provided for you.

As time went by, I came to realize that the things God has given me possessed more value to me when I decided to seek after the eternal things of God first. Whereas the things that I try to get by force or my desire don’t give me that same lasting enjoyment when I have them. If you have been after things that are temporal lately, why don’t you begin today by shifting your focus to the eternal things, and see if God will not provide for you all these other things that you need in your life. Once you begin to hook onto the eternal things of God, you will never worry about trying to get the temporal things because God has already taken care of those things for you.
