The Only Name
The Only Name
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12
Our names play a vital role in our identities. They are intertwined with deeply personal, cultural, familial, and historical ties. They also provide us with a sense of who we are, our place in the world, and the communities to which we belong. Some given names even allow the person to have special access to places or connections that others don’t normally have access to. For example, the President of the United States has access to the White House, the Pentagon, or any top-secret military compound. The Pope has access to the Vatican Palace and all its resources. Queen Elizabeth had access to Buckingham Palace and all its resources. If you have any special relationship with any of these people, then you can also have special access to certain resources available to you that you would not normally have.
For every believer who has given their lives over to Jesus, you are blessed to receive the only name under heaven by which you are saved. The name Jesus is derived from the Hebrew name Yeshua, which means “to deliver, to rescue, and to save,” and Yahweh, meaning “the Lord saves.” The good news is that today, you already possess the name of Jesus since your life is in Him. The name of Jesus is the only name that allows you to boldly enter the throne of grace, so you can receive mercy and find grace or unmerited-undeserved favor from God, your heavenly Father, to help you in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). Just before He ascended to be seated at the right hand of the Father, Jesus said, “All power [authority] is given me in heaven and in the earth.” (Matt. 28:18). The same authority and majesty in the name of Jesus, He has given to every believer on earth because He knows we will need it to overcome certain obstacles or situations we may be facing in our lives. “Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you.” (Luke 10:19 – AMP)
God has personally given you the name of Jesus, who has all the authority, all the power, all the dignity, all the majesty, and all the glory that Jesus the Person has with His resurrected body, which is now at the right hand of the Father. The name of Jesus has been given this respect, glory, authority, power, and access to all of heaven’s resources. And it is this Name that has been given to us, and the only name you ever need!
