Reset Your Affection

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above,

where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind

on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:1-2

To live the life God intended for you to live, you must learn to set your affection at another level. A level that I would call the “Heavenly Level.” The Word of God said to seek after those things which are above.  But a lot of God’s children have been seeking those things that are on the earth. They are after money, possessions, wealth, prestige, power, etc., on an earthly level instead of on the heavenly level. These earthly things may satisfy them momentarily, but they will never give them eternal gratification. So, does that mean that God doesn’t want me to have a bank account and all other things that pertain to this life? Of course not. What it means is that for us to receive higher things from God, we need to think or reset our affection at a higher level. God wants to bless us with all the material blessings that this planet contains, but He wants your heart to be close to His heart as well.

So, what are the things that we should be seeking above? The Word said to seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand or authority of God. This means we should be looking for all the things that Christ has already possessed for us through His victory at the cross. This includes our relationship with the Father, our health, our material wealth, and our authority in His name to further His kingdom on the earth. You see, these are the things that we should place our affection on and not only for our gain. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21) In other words, where your affection is, there is where your attention is. When your attention is on Him, you have access and confidence to ask anything in His name (that’s everything you’ll ever need in this life), and He shall gladly give it to you. That’s using your faith to allow His kingdom to come and manifest on the earth through your life.

The Word said that, “The blessing of the Lord makes rich and He adds no sorrow to it.” (Proverbs 10:22) The blessings that come from God have eternal value, which you can use to bless other people with no strings attached to them. I don’t know about you, but I believe that God’s stuff is way better than any stuff that the devil has to offer. So, make your decision today to reset your affection to the things that Jesus Christ has already provided for you. It is through Him alone that He has made you worthy to receive them.
