“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion,

seeking whom he may devour. Resist him,

steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”

I Peter 5:8-9

If you knew that a robber was about to break into your house and steal your property and try to harm your family, what would you do? You most likely prepared yourself with the appropriate security system to prevent him from breaking in. It is the same way in our spiritual walk with God. You see, the enemy of your faith, Satan himself, is always on the lookout for fresh prey to devour. He waits for anyone from whom he can steal, kill, and destroy. On top of it all, he is itching to see one of God’s children fall prey to his devices and schemes. You must realize that the devil doesn’t spend most of his time in bars and nightclubs. He spends most of his time in the church and waits for the appropriate time to cause havoc and destruction when our spiritual guards are down. Why would I say that? It is because the church is the one causing the most trouble in his kingdom. Especially if the church is filled with the Holy Spirit, healing the sick, casting out demons, and winning souls to Christ.

That is why we must always be sober and spiritually sharp, as Peter exhorts us to be. So when the devil tries to come along and cause hell in our house, workplace, or the church, we would be ready to stand against him and say, “Hell no!”  You have the authority and power to say, “Devil, be gone to the hell hole you came from in Jesus’ name! And I don’t want anything that hell has to offer!” We should not allow ourselves to be easily deceived by his tactics for the simple reason that we are not ignorant of his devices. We are encouraged to walk in the fruits of the Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) When the enemy roars with fear, bitterness, offense, and anger, the Holy Spirit should ring off inside of us and resist him steadfastly or consistently every time.

Don’t ever allow him to slither his way into your life, family, workplace, or church. But if he does try, you have the authority of Jesus’ name, and as His blood covenant child, you have the right to resist him by saying, “Hell No!” If you get in the habit of resisting him in the Spirit, he will not dare knock on your doorstep ever again.
